The Questors Present

One for the Road

By Willy Russell

Think you’ve seen a midlife crisis? Well, think again!

In a land where Tupperware rules and Badminton class is never missed (unless fatally ill), one man sees a life beyond it all...

In his sturdy dormer bungalow, Dennis is gearing up to celebrate a milestone birthday with his wife Pauline. Meanwhile, in neighbouring gardens, signs of vicious vandalism continue to spread:  gnomes are severed, cabbages are defaced, and cucumbers have lost all their modesty. But when the looming presence of Dennis’s padlocked bureau strikes the suspicions of one of the party guests, chaos soon ensues.

This razor-sharp comedy dishes up a dinner party of cottage pie and catastrophe. Stuck in a cycle of suburbia, Dennis’s contempt for John Denver records and the local jogging club is pushed to its limits. But can he break free from his domestic confines? Writer Willy Russell (Educating Rita) pairs bitter irony with utter absurdity in this rip-roaring play, illuminating the mayhem in the mundane.
